The future for football in St. Kitts and Nevis is bright as the SKNFA looks forward to a very active 2010. Building on the successes of 2009, the SKNFA will continue to grow and develop the game in St. Kitts and Nevis in the New Year. 2010 promises to be very exciting for the football loving fraternity with the Sugar Boyz engaging our regional counterparts in the Digicel Caribbean Championship. Women’s Football returns in 2010 with the FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers – knock-out stage. The Sugar Queens will be looking to get past the knock-out stage for the first time in this tournament. 2010 will also see the women footballers in St. Kitts and Nevis in a league of their own with the inaugural Women’s Football League (WFL).
2010 also promises to be very active for youth football with the U-17s competing in the CFU Boys Youth Cup in Trinidad and Tobago while the U-14s will be doing battle in the Barbados Cup. The Youth Development Department will continue to develop our young footballers both on and off the field through programs such as D.R.I.V.E and others.
In the meantime, the 2010 Digicel Premier League is shaping up for yet another electrifying finish, with league Champions SL Horsford’s St. Pauls and archrivals TDC Newtown United FC battling for top honors and a place in the Final-4 Playoff. The race to the Final-4 is going to be filled with excitement with Rams Village Superstars, Coury Gatorade Conaree FC, St. Peters FC, Garden Hotspurs FC and 888 CFBC making their push for the big dance.
